Good bookkeeping without the corporate costume
You don’t need to know the right accounting words, have perfectly organized records, or pretend everything is under control before you ask for help. Being A Very Serious Business Person isn’t a requirement for getting professional bookkeeping support.
What matters to me is getting the work right and making sure it makes sense to you. I believe in clear communication, practical systems, and providing you with books you can trust. Without all the extra performance that can make professional services feel more intimidating than they need to.
I like knowing how the pieces fit
I tend to start with two questions: where did this come from, and where is it supposed to go? Once I understand the path, I can make sense of how the transaction is being used and whether the steps in between are working the way they should.
Transaction Flow
I’m used to following money from the source to the final result, so I look at the full transaction path, not just whatever happens to appear in QuickBooks.
Reconciliation & Problem Solving
When something doesn’t match, I want to know why. Years of tracing discrepancies, credits, payments, and exceptions taught me not to stop at “close enough.”
How the Pieces Connect
I’ve worked across billing, purchasing, AP, reporting, vendor workflows, and financial systems, so I naturally look at how one part of the process affects another.
QuickBooks & Bookkeeping Training
QuickBooks Online ProAdvisor Level 2 and the Intuit Bookkeeping credential, built on years of practical financial operations experience.
The books should fit the business
I want to understand the whole picture because context matters.
The same transaction can mean something different depending on where it came from, what happened before it reached the bank, and what it was meant to accomplish. Knowing how your business works helps me keep the books accurate and ask better questions when something doesn’t fit.
The business is the puzzle
The books show how the pieces fit
Room to breathe
Blank Space Bookkeeping started because I wanted more room in my own life. After nearly twenty years in finance and operations, I knew I wanted to keep the parts of the work I cared about: getting things right, building systems that make sense, and solving the weird little problems that show up along the way.
What I wanted to leave behind was the idea that work has to take over the rest of your life to count as serious. I wanted time for dog walks before dark, elaborate cookie projects, and an ordinary Wednesday afternoon that didn’t belong to somebody else.
I think a lot of small-business owners are building their own version of that. Your business should create possibilities for your life, not quietly consume all of it. If taking bookkeeping off your plate gives you a few more evenings back, more room to grow something else, or simply one less thing humming in the back of your brain, that matters to me.
You can be a person here
You can ask the question in plain English. You can show me the system that isn’t working yet. You can have busy weeks, strange schedules, and a business that still feels a little improvised around the edges.
I care about clear communication and following through on what we agree to. Beyond that, I’m much more interested in finding something workable than making you fit somebody else’s idea of how a business owner is supposed to behave.
Professional bookkeeping should make your business easier to live with, not give you another set of rules to perform correctly.
